From 23 September, the Department of Immigration has reworked its priority processing arrangements. Previously, state/territory sponsored applicants were of second highest priority on the list. This led to some unexpected distortion in processing times, as an unprecedentedly large volume of state/territory sponsorship applications were lodged. As a result, applicants whose occupations were on the Critical Skills List but did not have state/territory sponsorship were taking longer than expected to be processed. The 23 September changes should correct this distortion and applicants who nominated critical skills list occupations should experience faster processing as a result. A large number of professional healthcare occupations are on the Critical Skills List. From 23 September existing and new permanent residence applications will be dealt with in the following order: 1. ENS and RMS (employer sponsored) 2. State/Territory Nominated and on CSL 3. Family sponsored and on CSL 4. CSL 5. State/Territory Nominated and not on CSL 6. MODL 7. Family sponsored and not on CSL 8.
